A personal statement is an account of achievements, talents, interests, and goals, (such as desired career path and reasons for studying. A personal statement has a simple purpose – to promote the student! It should be written to make the application stand out for all the right reasons. However, be careful not to exaggerate, as this will become clear at interviews, meaning a place may not be offered.
What should be included in a personal statement:
1. Why did I choose this course?
2. What excites me about the topic?
3. How is my previous and/or current study relevant?
4. Do I have any relevant work experience?
5. What transferable skills did I gain from my work/study?
6. What life experiences have I had that I could discuss?
7. Do I have any achievements I am proud of?
8. What skills do I have that make me a good fit for the course? 9. What ambitions do I have for my career?
